What is credentialing?

Credentialing is the review a broker or health plan performs before adding a transportation provider to its network. It checks business licenses, Medicaid enrollment, insurance certificates, vehicle inspections and registrations, driver qualification files (license, background check, drug test, training certificates, medical clearance), policies such as HIPAA and safety, and often a site visit. Credentials are re-verified annually or on renewal.

Why credentialing matters for NEMT

Credentialing is the gate to broker volume and the most common place new providers stall for months over a missing document. Build a credentialing binder (digital) with every item current and an expiration calendar, so that adding a second or third broker is a matter of days. Lapsed credentials, such as an expired insurance certificate, lead to trip suspension without warning.
