What is the OIG exclusion list?

The List of Excluded Individuals/Entities (LEIE) is maintained by the HHS Office of Inspector General and names people and companies excluded from federal health programs, usually for fraud convictions, license revocations or patient abuse. Federal law prohibits Medicaid providers from employing or contracting with excluded parties in any role connected to program services, and most states keep their own exclusion lists as well.

Why exclusion screening matters for NEMT

Employing an excluded driver, even unknowingly, exposes the provider to civil monetary penalties and repayment of every claim that driver touched. Screen owners, managers, drivers and attendants against the LEIE and your state list at hire and monthly thereafter; several inexpensive services automate it. Keep the screening log in the compliance file; brokers ask for it.
