Electronic visit verification (EVV) is a federal requirement under the 21st Century Cures Act that Medicaid-funded personal care and home health visits be verified electronically, capturing the service type, individual, date, location, caregiver and start and end times. EVV applies to in-home care services; it does not apply to non-emergency medical transportation.
NEMT providers hear "EVV" from payers and vendors because the same verification logic, GPS location plus timestamps plus identity, is being applied to trips through broker requirements and state program integrity rules. Providers that already capture GPS-verified pickup and drop-off events with signatures are effectively EVV-ready. If your state moves to formal trip verification standards, that data is what they will ask for.
